Manage Notifications and Subscriptions

Overview

OuterSpatial notifications include general app updates and subscriptions for specific places and organizations. You can manage notification categories, choose push or email delivery when available, and subscribe or unsubscribe from individual places and organizations.

You need to be signed in to save notification preferences or subscribe to a place or organization.

Open Notification Settings

On iOS:

  1. Open the Me tab.
  2. Tap the settings icon.
  3. Tap Notification Settings.

On Android:

  1. Open your profile.
  2. Tap the settings icon.
  3. Tap Notification Settings.

Manage Notification Categories

Notification Settings can include categories such as tips, product updates, social engagement, alerts, check-ins, posts, reviews, and reports. Available categories depend on your account and community.

Turn a category on or off to control that group of messages. When push and email options are shown inside a category, use those options to choose how OuterSpatial can contact you.

Push notifications also depend on your device notification permission. If push is enabled in OuterSpatial but notifications still do not arrive, check the notification permission in your device settings.

Subscribe to a Place or Organization

Open a place or organization and tap the Notifications or Subscribe to Notifications button near the top of the page. Tap it again when you want to unsubscribe.

If you are not signed in, OuterSpatial asks you to sign in before saving the subscription.

After you save a place or organization, the app may ask whether you also want notifications for that item. This prompt is optional. Choosing Don't show this message again only hides that prompt; it does not turn all notifications off.

Review Place and Organization Subscriptions

On iOS, open Me, choose Saved, then choose Subscriptions. Open Locations or Organizations to review subscribed items. Notification Settings also links to these subscribed lists.

On Android, use Notification Settings to manage the notification categories for organization and location subscriptions. To change a specific place or organization subscription, open that place or organization and use its Notifications button.

Location-Based Notifications

Some notifications depend on location access, such as alerts tied to supported areas or challenge locations. For timely location-based alerts, allow location access when the app asks for it. You can still use many notification features without location access, but location-specific alerts may be limited.

Troubleshooting

If notifications are not working as expected:

  1. Make sure you are signed in.
  2. Check your internet connection.
  3. Confirm the relevant category is turned on in Notification Settings.
  4. Confirm the push or email option is turned on for that category when the option is available.
  5. Check your device notification permission for OuterSpatial.
  6. For location-based alerts, check location permission.
  7. Update OuterSpatial from the App Store or Google Play.
