Location Pages

Overview

Location pages help you plan visits to places published by OuterSpatial organization partners. A location page can represent an area, trail, outing, or Point of Interest.

Use location pages to review current conditions, photos, descriptions, maps, directions, related activities, visit products, and recent community activity.

Find Location Pages

Open Explore to browse places on the map. You can also browse public list pages:

Community and organization pages can also include their own Areas, Trails, Outings, and Points of Interest sections. When you open a location from a community or organization page, the page keeps that browsing context in the breadcrumbs and related links.

Review the Page Header

The top of a location page can include:

  • Photos.
  • The location type, such as Area, Trail, Outing, or a Point of Interest category.
  • Star rating.
  • Share, save, and notification buttons.
  • Closure status, such as Open, Partially Closed, Closed, or Seasonal.
  • Parent location context, such as the area for a trail or Point of Interest.
  • Distance from your current or approximate location when available.

Use the share button to copy or send the page link. Use the save button to add the location to your saved locations. Use the bell icon to subscribe to notifications for that location. You may need to sign in before saving or subscribing.

Check Alerts and Closures

If a location has active alerts, the page may show an alert banner, card, or summary bar below the title. Select the alert to read more details, including affected locations, attachments, and instructions from the managing organization.

Review both the closure status and any active alerts before visiting. Closure status explains access restrictions, while alerts explain what you need to know.

Use the Map and Directions

Location pages can include an interactive map preview. Select the map or the full-map control to open the location in the larger Explore map when that option is available.

The information panel can include directions, an address, latitude and longitude, what3words, phone, website, acreage, length, or documents depending on what the organization has published. Directions open an external map service in a new tab.

Plan a Visit

Some location pages include a Plan section or product buttons in the information panel. These can show tickets, passes, or reservations connected to the location.

Select a product to review the details, then follow the purchase or reservation button when available. Checkout may happen on a partner website.

Areas may also show related Points of Interest, events, articles, and challenges. Trails, outings, and Points of Interest may show related open or upcoming challenges when available.

Read Additional Details

Location pages can include extra content from the organization, such as accessibility information, documents, media, labels, stewarding organizations, and related places.

Some descriptions may show translated content when the page language differs from the original description. If available, use View original to compare the original text.

Use Social and Reviews

The Recent Activity section shows posts, reviews, and other public activity for the location. Choose View All to open the full Social page for that location.

When the page supports web posting and you are signed in, choose Create to add a post or review. Reports are handled in Mobile for now.

Open the Location in Mobile

Some location actions work best in OuterSpatial Mobile, such as participating in challenges, using mobile location tools, or continuing a visit while outdoors. Use the app banner or shared link to open the location in Mobile when the app is installed.

Report or Suggest Updates

Use Report An Error to report incorrect information on a location page. Use Suggest An Edit to recommend an update. If your organization manages the place and it has not been claimed, use Claim to start the organization onboarding flow in Manager.

Troubleshooting

If a location page looks incomplete:

  1. Check whether you opened the page from the correct community or organization.
  2. Refresh the page.
  3. Open the map from Explore to confirm you are looking at the correct location.
  4. Review the managing organization and related places for more context.
  5. Use Report An Error or Suggest An Edit if the page information appears incorrect.

If save, subscribe, post, or review actions do not work, sign in and try again. If directions do not open, allow pop-ups or open the location map manually in your browser.
